TYPOGRAPHY OF RESEARCH PAPER
A Research Paper is a piece of academic writing that analyzes, evaluates, or interprets a single topic with empirical evidence and statistical data. It is an expanded essay that presents the author’s interpretation or evaluation or argument.
As a common form of academic writing, research papers locate information about a topic through research, take a stand on that topic, and provide support or evidence for that position in an organized report.
Put in another word, research paper refer to a scholarly article that contains the results of original research or an evaluation of research conducted by others. Most scholarly articles must undergo a process of peer review before they can be accepted for publication in an academic journal.
Commonly, research papers are divided into less or more than 8 different parts. Knowing this parts and their expected contents would equip trainees for consultancy and freelancing jobs. Below are the different parts of a research paper.
- Title/Cover Page: The very first page of the every research paper is used to identify its title, author, date of preparation, institution, etc. Additional elements would be determined by the institution and usually made known to students or authors beforehand.
- Introduction: The very beginning of the research paper bearing the thesis statement or state of problem and abstract. It is generally a summary of what the author is setting out to accomplish with research project, including the problems the author is looking to scrutinize and any solutions or recommendations that the author anticipate beforehand.
- Literature Review: Provision of the theoretical framework that the author elaborated during the research. The author will have to present the sources he/she studied while preparing for the work. Such sources must be credible from an academic standpoint and usually include educational books, peer-reviewed journals, publications, articles both online and offline.
- Research Methodology: Explains the exact methods used in the course of research work. Typical methods can range from direct observation to laboratory experiments, or statistical evaluations.
- Data Analysis: While all the parts of a research paper are important, this section is probably the most crucial from a practical standpoint. Out of all the parts of a research paper, here the author would be expected to analyze the data obtained in the course of research.
- Results: Here, the author is expected to analyze the data gathered while researching in alignment with previously state methodology, point out any implications suggested by the data that might be relevant to different fields of study, as well as any shortcomings in the approach that would enable the author to improve results if he/she was to repeat the same type of research.
- Conclusion: Here, the author reiterate the problem statement along with the methodology and analyze data by drawing all these elements together to reach the purpose of the research and point out his/her thought or conclusion in a clear manner.
- Reference Page: This is the very last section of the research paper where the author collect academic sources along with all the publications consulted while fleshing out the paper. It is the list of all references according to the citation format specified by the instructor, supervisor or institution. Common formats of referencing includes the APA, and MLA.
